In July I made the transition to Oklahoma. That last look of the prairie house was bitter and sweet. I wasn’t going to miss the winters, but the amazing vistas I would miss. But Winters Wind was on the move!
As I write this I can see the golden maze colored leaves, just barely holding onto their limbs. When the wind stirs the leaves, a few give up their clingy fight to stay attached to the tree and every so gently float down to join those who had fallen before.
Back in Illinois the air would have that chilling bite to it, giving a glimpse of what was to come! Here fall comes in quietly. Morning awakes cool, yet missing that “bite” of frosty air. Make no mistake that the cooler mornings are refreshing! The summer heat, kept the dogs and the humans inside a great deal of the day. We all decided a swimming pool was a necessity not a luxury down here!
Our town of Claremore, is right on the famous Route 66! Know for being the home town to Will Rodgers, Patti Page and a few more people of fame. A little known fact is that the Claremore area is home to some of the finest ranches dedicated to raising horses for rodeo, racing, and pleasure riding. The sight of seeing hundreds of some the most elegant horses on acres of land is breath taking.
In September we took in the local county Fair. It was just as expected; carnival lights, rides, and the air wafted with the aroma of fried foods; from elephant ears to corn dogs.
Entering the exhibition hall the colorful ribbons hung as trophies, by the winning entries of pies, jams, produce, needle crafts, art and much more. The day we went, it was the Giant Pumpkin weigh in! I had never seen such monstrous produce! Weighing in at over 725#. Imagine all the Thanksgiving pies, Pumpkin Butter and and Bread that would make! Of course the challenge is how to BAKE anything of that size!
Leaving the exposition hall, we wandered over to watch the barrel racing. Finding a bleacher to sit on, the horses and riders worked in tandem, sharply cutting around the barrels racing against the clock. I swear those kids had super glue on the seat of their pants! How did they keep mounted, as the horses wheeled and raced around those steel drums, not touching the bright orange barrel. They should have used those giant pumpkins as the obstacle! Now there is a good use of super sized gourds!
Our first litter arrived on October 16! The first puppies born in our new home we call “On Golden Pond”. Luna delivered 10 healthy, curly haired bundles; 6 males and 4 females. The litter was sired by our home bred, AKC Champion Winterswind Sir Winston of Chartwell Abbey. This is a special litter on several levels. It is Luna; UGCH Hi Hat’s Dark Side Of The Moon, UJJ, UWJ last litter and the litter was a category 10 on Better Bred. As a breeder this means they are not related at all, hopefully reducing the risk of carrying illnesses we can not test for as of yet.
It’s the anticipation of what these babies will develop into and the joy they will bring to their new families that await them. It is a satisfaction that makes all the decisions, time, energy, costs and loss of sleep worth it. Knowing that each of you; who has or will have a Winters Wind puppy, has a dog that was well planned and raised with love and knowledge. Our mission is that you can have many years of memories, walks, or assistance from your companion.
We would like to invite you to join our family, when you are ready for not just a standard poodle but and exceptional poodle. Bred with thoughtful decision and raised with deliberate care.
I agree with Will Rogers………..
“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”
